Wu Shangguo, style name Diaolong, was born in the city of Suining, a hilly area in Sichuan, during the Cultural Revolution. During his studies, he was taught by local renowned masters such as Huang Jianhong, Ran Yonghui, Zhou Yucen, and Zeng Shaoxiang. In 1984, he won the first prize in a regional adult calligraphy competition. In 1986, he studied under Master Li Guoqing of Neijiang City and received special praise.

In the 1990s, he founded a seal carving studio, designing shop signs and creating seals. At the end of the 1990s, due to urban redevelopment, he turned his focus to the appraisal of calligraphy and paintings at the turn of the century, frequently traveling between small and medium-sized cities, visiting secondhand book stalls, junk shops, and so on, and has been devoted to the collection of calligraphy and paintings ever since.

During the scorching summer of 2016, while admiring a Republican-era painting titled "Bamboo and Rocks," he had a sudden inspiration and invented a new calligraphic style called "Bamboo Leaf Seal Script." Over the past few years, he has made steady progress, achieving a small step every three to five months and a major advancement each year, continuously refining and improving his style. In recent months, he is confident that his script has reached a mature stage, and he has devoted himself entirely to writing the "Bamboo Leaf Seal Script Character Primer," comprising five thousand characters……
