Tang Shimin, born in 1939 in Chongqing, graduated from the Landscape Painting Department of the China Painting School at Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts in 1964. He formerly served as Associate Researcher at the Chongqing Hongyan Revolutionary Memorial Hall, member of the Sichuan Branch of the China Artists Association, member of the Chongqing Artists Association, invited painter of the Chongqing Academy of Painting, and member of the Art Committee of Chongqing Academy of Painting.
In his early years, he studied under Mr. Feng Jianwu, former president of Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts and renowned Chinese ink painter. His landscape techniques are highly proficient and original, skillfully blending traditional styles with modern aesthetic perspectives. His works possess significant collection value; numerous pieces have been collected by individuals and art institutions both domestically and internationally, featured in newspapers, magazines, and major art albums, and used by the Chongqing Municipal Party Committee and Government as well as large enterprises as diplomatic gifts.
In 1985, "Ode to Zhou Gongguan" and "Longan" were exhibited in the "Chongqing Academy of Painting Fog Season Exhibition" and collected by the Chongqing Museum;
In 1987, his work "Autumn Colors of Hongyan" won the Gold Medal at the "First Chongqing Calligraphy and Painting Competition";
In 2005, he participated in the Chongqing Academy of Painting's collective creation of the monumental landscape painting "Jinggangshan" for the Central Party School of the Communist Party of China in Beijing; the academy director appointed him as the lead artist, and the painting is now displayed in the Grand Auditorium of the Central Party School in Beijing;
In 2009, Chongqing Television produced a feature documentary titled "Famous Landscape Painter Tang Shimin."
The market valuation of his works on the art options index is 6,787 RMB per square foot.
