Chen Xiaoping, a direct disciple of Zhang Daqian's lineage, is a distinguished artist in painting and calligraphy.Born in Chongqing in 1952, with ancestral roots in Yiyang, Henan, he grew up in Chengdu, Sichuan. A member of the "Old Third Form" educated youth.
In the 1970s, he studied painting and calligraphy under Mr. Luo Xinzhi, a renowned master and direct disciple of Zhang Daqian. He calls himself "Wanli Danqing Ke," "Long Ren," and "Biluo Yuan Master." He specializes in landscape painting, with additional expertise in figures and flowers-and-birds, developing his own distinctive style. He excels in clerical script. He has a deep affection for poetry and prose, often composing inscriptions for his landscape works inspired by famous mountains and rivers.
In the 1980s, he participated in Sichuan Province's Self-Study Examination for Higher Education and graduated in 1986 with a major in Chinese Language and Literature from Sichuan Normal University. He has published over 300,000 characters of essays, travelogues, fiction, and news reports in provincial and municipal newspapers and magazines.
From 2013 to 2016, he drove over 60,000 kilometers, traveling through all 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities of China, deeply absorbing the essence of its majestic mountains and rivers. Consequently, his plein-air creations include not only delicate southern landscapes but also rugged northern scenes, as well as numerous sketches capturing the unique character of border regions such as Xinjiang and Tibet, leaving viewers with a fresh and striking impression.
Rooted in nature, he integrates his profound love for the natural world into his brushwork and ink, skillfully adapting his style to reflect the specific characteristics of each subject. He extensively incorporates Western painting techniques into traditional Chinese composition, pursuing vividness and delicacy in overall execution, with brushwork emphasizing strength and vitality. His use of color is profoundly influenced by Zhang Daqian, favoring bold blue-and-green splashed ink techniques that strongly echo Master Zhang's legacy.
Since 2019, he has settled in Songzhuang Artist Village, Beijing, dedicating himself fully to artistic creation in painting and calligraphy. Through extensive exchanges with domestic and international artists, he has broadened his artistic horizons and elevated his cultural refinement, gradually aligning his work with the demands of the art market.
In the same year, he participated in the Third International Moral System Building Calligraphy and Painting Art Master Creation and Sales Public Welfare Activity and the First China Contemporary Realist Calligraphy and Painting Art Master Networking Symposium, where his landscape sketches made their debut at auction and quickly gained widespread recognition and acclaim. His work has since been featured in media outlets such as Jinri Toutiao and International Television, and he has been designated as a "Chinese Art Figure" by the National Gift Art Network.
In 2020, he participated in the charity auction event "Ink and Color Express Love, Artistic Works for Epidemic Prevention" organized by the Artist Committee of the China Cultural Management Association and donated artworks to support the national fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2020, he was appointed as an Academician of the Sanliujiu Famous Artists Calligraphy and Painting Academy.
Since 2021, he has been contracted as a signed artist by Starlight TV Station.
In the same year, his work was included in the commemorative "China Post Album" titled "A Century of Glory: One Hundred Masters" celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China.
In the same year, he was included in the "Encyclopedia of Calligraphers and Painters."
In the same year, he signed a contract with Beijing Jiali Art Gallery.
In January 2022, he won the Silver Award at the 11th Annual Meeting of the China Regional Association of the World Artists Association in the United States, in the exhibition "Artistic Ink."
