Personal Profile
Yu Jun graduated in 2007 with a master's degree from the Chinese Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. He is currently a member of the China Calligraphers Association and a member of the Jiangxi Artists Association. Since 2002, he has served as a judge for the CCTV Painting and Calligraphy Academy's national youth painting and calligraphy competition "Mocai Cup." He now teaches at an art college in a university. An educational expert from a family of painters and calligraphers, his grandfather Yu Shixiao worked at the Jingdezhen Ceramic Museum, and he studied calligraphy in the military under his father. Influenced by his family, he embarked on a career in painting and calligraphy—fearless and skilled, trying everything, mastering all forms: traditional Chinese painting, oil painting, printmaking, gongbi (meticulous) painting, watercolor, ceramic painting, enamel painting, and calligraphy in five script styles, particularly excelling in running-cursive and clerical scripts with a unique, distinctive flavor. During his military service, he was fortunate to be selected by Mr. Ran Maokui, a first-class artist of the Navy, and studied oil painting and printmaking in his studio. After five years of advanced study in the military, he established a solid foundation. He also received guidance from Ouyang Zhongshi and A Lao during calligraphy training at the PLA Academy of Arts, allowing his artistic journey to gallop forward like a horse freed from its reins—his painting and calligraphy style alternating between boldness and delicacy. In university art education, he advocates tradition while striving for innovation.
