Kang Xiaodong
Kang Xiaodong, from Yudu, Ganzhou, Jiangxi Province, has been learning painting and calligraphy since childhood under the guidance of his father, Kang Xingming, a graduate of Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute. Influenced by his father, he developed a lifelong passion for painting and calligraphy. Pen name: Dongzi; Studio name: Mo Hua Bao; engaged in painting and calligraphy for over 40 years. His ink painting style embraces freehand expression, depth, and reverence for antiquity without being bound by convention, embodying an ancient, rustic beauty. His brushwork is direct, innocent, vigorous, weighty, and朴拙 (simple yet profound), emphasizing inner spirit and tension—melding traditional brushwork skills, feng shui aesthetics, and modern forms, drawing inspiration from nature. His style is unique, innovative, and distinct from the ordinary. He excels in depicting flowers, birds, peonies, and meticulous ink-and-wash paintings. He has also conducted in-depth research into feng shui culture in residential environments. His landscape paintings seamlessly integrate feng shui principles, making them highly sought-after for offices and homes. Contemporary feng shui paintings, when properly composed, are believed to influence the fortune of households and businesses. His seal script calligraphy has won multiple awards; his seal script is uniquely thoughtful and is affectionately dubbed the "Steel Beam Style."
