The first person to bring Chinese architectural fengshui into universities in 1988, published in the first issue in October 2016."The improvement of calligraphy level comes from the enhancement of ideological realm, and the breakthrough of ideological realm originates from the cognition of the essence of things, which needs Daoism to enlighten. Therefore, the pursuit of Dao is the ultimate goal of all calligraphers. Daoist calligraphy is to use the thoughts of Dao to guide artistic creation, and to manage art with Dao." This is Dr. Yuan Kuangren's comprehensive summary of Daoist calligraphy over the past 27 years.
Dr. Yuan Kuangren's calligraphy works, most of the texts are derived from Daoist classics, and also include his own insights and life experiences. With extraordinary textual control ability and skills, he smoothly and fluently explains the true meaning of Daoism!Dr. Yuan Kuangren's running script is sometimes as fast as a storm and whirlwind, and sometimes as slow as old trees hanging vines. It seeks changes in strokes while maintaining smoothness, and has a clear control within the swirling and dancing, without being dry with a thousand strokes, not slippery with warm strokes, not muddy with heavy ink, not thin with light ink. It skillfully and beautifully unifies the contradictory elements in calligraphy such as reality and emptiness, size, tilt, and intensity, and applies them organically, conforming to the profound wisdom of the Daoist philosophy of "yin and yang are called Dao." In the history of Chinese painting and calligraphy, there have been many masters who deeply understood "Dao" and integrated "Dao" into their artistic creations. They used "Dao" to enlighten wisdom, enhance cultivation, expand horizons, and create atmosphere. Such as Wang Xizhi, Gu Kaizhi, Wu Daozi, Zhao Mengfu, Badashanren, Zheng Banqiao, Zhang Daqian, Qi Baishi, etc. As their art became more mature, they pursued "unification with Dao" more deeply, which better conforms to Dr. Yuan Kuangren's lifelong highest pursuit of "art approaching Dao."
Perhaps because those who cultivate Dao are naturally closer to Dao than ordinary people, Dr. Yuan Kuangren's calligraphy skills are more skilled and pure, and he has extremely high mastery and artistic expression in Daoist calligraphy. Daoist art itself integrates personality, mood, experience, and belief with artistic creation, giving the work vitality and emotion. Dr. Yuan Kuangren's calligraphy, with its natural and simple style and ethereal and spiritual atmosphere, not only brings aesthetic enjoyment but also gives people a spiritual cleansing. He is indeed a leading figure in the current Daoist calligraphy circle in China, the first Daoist calligrapher!
