Xu Chaoran, whose real name is Xu Pingwu, was born in 1969 in Zhao'an County, Fujian Province, known as the hometown of Chinese calligraphy and painting. Since childhood, he has been immersed in the artistic atmosphere of local scholars and diligently studied, forming his own style. He specializes in large-character calligraphy and creative minimalist calligraphy. His works are grand, majestic, dynamic, elegant, vigorous, and powerful. He currently serves as a council member of the China Calligraphers and Painters Association, a member of the China Calligraphers and Painters Association, vice chairman of the China Calligraphers and Painters Alliance, an academician at the Great Wall Generals' Calligraphy and Painting Academy, advisor to the Guangdong branch of the China Generals' Calligraphy and Painting Research Institute, a specially invited calligrapher and painter of the China Cultural Publishing House, and president of Xingmotang Calligraphy and Painting Academy in Jinjiang City, Fujian Province. He is also a contracted calligrapher and painter for Jinhaitai Art Investment Company. Starting with the charity auction of calligraphy and paintings after the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake, he has been actively involved in public welfare activities, traveling across the country, and donating all proceeds from auctions to charitable organizations and vulnerable groups.
