Personal Profile

Huang Zhangzhu, styled Jinsan, was born in 1957 in Fujian Ningde. He graduated from high school in 1978 and enlisted in the Fuzhou Military Region the same year as a cultural backbone. After transitioning to civilian life, he worked in charge of editing special publications for his unit. Since childhood, he has had a deep passion for calligraphy, regarding it as a great joy in spiritual life, and has diligently trained in fundamental skills. He has studied masterpieces by Wang Xizhi, Wang Xianzhi, Yan Zhenqing, Liu Gongquan, Zhao Mengfu, and Ouyang Xun, absorbing the essence of ancient calligraphy masters. He frequently participates in national calligraphy exhibitions and competitions to absorb artistic refinement. After moving to Beijing in 1995, influenced by the capital’s calligraphy art scene, he broadened his horizons and expanded his thinking, significantly advancing his skills. He has since studied under Zhao Yuting, an early member of the China Calligraphers Association (calligrapher), and Master Xiao Xuxing, drawing widely from diverse sources. His calligraphic style is uniquely personal—neither eccentric nor unrestrained, but naturally expressive. He excels in running and regular script, with characters distinguished by innovative aesthetics: soft yet firm, varied and dynamic, exuding spirit and vitality. His regular script draws deeply from the traditions of Liu and Yan, demonstrating profound classical foundations, elegant structure, and powerful strokes, earning praise from teachers and acclaim from collectors. In 2017, he joined the Beijing Guangwai Calligraphy Association; his works were published in the "Tianyu Fengyun" Calligraphy Special Issue. His studio integrates tea culture with calligraphy, practicing and selling works side by side. His works have been featured in major media outlets and are collected by calligraphy enthusiasts both domestically and internationally. In the 2017 National Painting and Calligraphy Art Competition, he won third prize, receiving an award plaque, trophy, and certificate of honor.
