Zhang Liande, styled Gonglve, was born in 1936. He is a retired cadre from Beijing. Since his youth, he has been passionate about calligraphy. For many years, he has mainly learned calligraphy by himself with great diligence, copying and studying the calligraphy art of predecessors such as the "Two Wangs" (Wang Xizhi and Wang Xianzhi), Ouyang Xun, Yan Zhenqing, and Liu Gongquan. With the guidance and help of teachers Su Shi and Yao Junqing, he has laid a solid foundation in calligraphy. He has kept practicing calligraphy for decades and later developed his own calligraphy style. Currently, he holds positions including Academician of the United Nations Peace Calligraphy and Painting Academy, Director of the Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Association, Director of the Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Art Promotion Association, Director of the Hong Kong Calligraphers Association, Director of Jiuzhou Fenglin International Calligraphy and Painting Art Academy, Member of the Chinese Culture and Art Promotion Federation, and Vice President of Beijing Shuimo Tongyuan International Calligraphy and Painting Academy. Over the years, his calligraphy works have won many gold and silver awards in domestic and international calligraphy competitions, and have been exhibited and collected at home and abroad.
In recent years, he has been awarded honorary titles by art groups and institutions, such as "People's Artist", "Top 100 Chinese Calligraphers", "Outstanding Calligrapher of the Republic", "Red Inheritance Calligrapher of the Republic", "Famous Chinese Patriotic Artist", "Celebrity in Calligraphy and Seal Carving Art", "Friendship Envoy of New China's Cultural Exchange", and "Cultural Envoy Across the Taiwan Strait".
