Li Huilian, art name Li Xuan, also known as Ming Yan, Zi Shi Qing, Hao Qifeng Shanren, Xuan Mo Dao Ren, Han Chinese, born in Beijing, 1953.
Honorary Chairman of the World Chinese Artists Association, Vice Chairman of the World Famous Artists Research Association, Four-star Calligrapher and Painter of the International Artists Committee of the United States, one of the top 50 influential artists in China, founder of Xuán Mò calligraphy and painting, Senior Artistic Professional (Level I), member of the China Calligraphers Association, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Dunhuang Art Creation Committee, Director of the Oriental Xuán Mò Calligraphy and Painting Institute, Deputy Director of the China Huaxia Calligraphy and Painting Institute, Guest Professor at the International Classic Calligraphy and Painting Academy, and Cultural Relics Appraiser.
In 2011, he was awarded the title of "Outstanding Artist of the People's Republic of China." In 2012, his works were included in the "New China Artists Encyclopedia." He began studying fine arts history and calligraphy-painting in the early 1970s. From the early 1980s to late 1990s, his representative works in freehand ink painting included plum blossoms, orchids, bamboo, and chrysanthemums ("Four Gentlemen"), excelling in pine, bamboo, and plum ("Three Friends"), especially wind-snow bamboo, freehand ink landscape paintings, and calligraphy mainly in regular script and cursive script. His artistic creation entered a new phase after the late 1990s, centered on Xuán Mò calligraphy and painting. He pioneered the Xuán Mò art culture field (guided by Taoist philosophy and Buddhist concepts). In 1996, he compiled the book "A Brief Discussion on Chinese and Western Art History," followed by numerous awards such as the China Art Golden Image Award. Based on ancient Chinese Taoist thought, he has long engaged in Xuán Mò calligraphy and painting creation, publishing multiple theoretical papers on innovative techniques in Xuán Mò culture. He has long been involved in antique and calligraphy-painting appraisal, believing that Chinese calligraphy and painting should inherit tradition while pursuing innovation.
