Liu Haichao, styled Muyun, male, Han ethnicity, born in 1980 in Xinzheng, Henan. Graduated from the continuing education program at Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts in 1999. Currently serves as a researcher at the China International Academy of Calligraphy and Painting, a member of the Beijing Contemporary Friendship Calligraphy and Painting Academy, a China Art Wealth Figure, and one of China’s Top 100 Calligraphers and Painters. Since childhood, he has been passionately devoted to freehand-style peony painting. In traditional Chinese culture, the peony symbolizes prosperity, happiness, peace, auspiciousness, and wealth, and is revered as the “King of Flowers.” Through his depictions of peonies, the artist conveys a spirit of bold advancement and vigorous aspiration, reflecting a positive pursuit of life and beautiful wishes for the future. In March 2010, his works were appraised by the National Valuation Center at 3,000 RMB per square chi.
