Personal Profile
Cui Yuke, styled Yishi, was born in Tianjin in 1959. Since childhood, he has been deeply passionate about painting and seal carving, and once studied seal carving under Mr. Zhang Mushi, a renowned lyricist, sinologist, and seal engraver from Tianjin. His father, Cui Jinguang, had early on studied under the famous painters Liu Kuiying, Liu Zijiu, and Xiao Xinquan, specializing in bird-and-flower painting with considerable achievement. For Yishi, painting was an inherited family tradition, and he was thus immersed in artistic cultivation from an early age. Later, through his father’s introduction, he became a personal disciple of Mr. Liu Weiliang, focusing on figure and landscape painting. He has since received direct guidance and instruction from renowned Tianjin painters Guo Hongxun, Zhang Zhiyuan, and Zuo Yuedan, greatly broadening his creative horizons. Particularly inspired by the masterful two-brush technique for persimmons passed down by the venerable Mr. Zhang Zhiyuan, he developed a unique artistic style in practice. He also studied meticulous ink peonies, and his works are highly cherished by collectors both domestically and abroad. He has participated in numerous painting and calligraphy exhibitions and received awards. In recent years, he was invited twice to the National Successful Figures Award Ceremony, where his works were collected by the Mao Zedong Memorial Hall, the Great Hall of the People, the Capital Museum, and the China Population Culture Promotion Association. On January 28, 2012, the Central Education Channel 1 program "Renowned in China" aired a special feature titled "Ink and Wash Colors" on his artistic life. In May of the same year, China Education Television Channel 1's "Renowned in China" program broadcast a special May Day episode titled "Entering Anxi."
