Wang Chao, a renowned Chinese painter, calligrapher, and poet, was born in Tianjin in 1939. He graduated from the Department of Chinese Painting at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1963, having studied under esteemed teachers such as Li Kecheng, Li Kuchan, Jiang Zhaohe, Ye Qianyu, Liu Lingcang, Wu Zuo-ren, Zong Qixiang, Tian Shiguang, and Yu Zhizhen. He was also a student of Bao Yu Gui and Wu Yuru.
He is currently a professor at the Training College of Renmin University, a senior mentor for advanced study programs, a member of the China Artists Association, a member of the River and Mountain Painting Society of the China Artists Association, a member of the China Writers Association, an art consultant of the China Association for the Promotion of International Cultural Exchange among Ethnic Groups, president of the China Guoxue Research Association, former professor at the Tianjin Institute of Arts and Crafts, and a member of the Art Committee of the "National Archive of 20th Century Artworks" by the Ministry of Culture. He is also an art consultant for the CCTV Network. He is the president of the World Temple Calligraphy and Painting Institute. A master of calligraphy and painting who has established his own school.
As early as the 1960s and 1970s, he became famous for his landscape, flower and bird, and figure paintings. In the early 1980s, he created fable paintings, peonies, and elephants, developing his unique style. His peonies often carry profound meanings, emphasizing originality within simplicity, pursuing the vigor of the Han and Wei dynasties and the elegance of the Jin and Tang dynasties, with an extraordinary spirit.
His works have been exhibited in the China Art Museum, the Central Academy of Fine Arts, the China Museum of Modern Literature, the Liaoning Provincial Museum, and in cities such as Liaoning, Beijing, Tianjin, Wuhan, Yantai, Shenzhen, and Qingdao, with the exhibition "Wang Chao's Poetry, Calligraphy, and Painting Exhibition." He has participated in many major domestic and international exhibitions. His works are collected by numerous cultural institutions and collectors both in China and abroad.
The work "The Majestic Wind" was displayed in the central hall of the Tiananmen Gate Tower. The painting "Tranquility" is included in the "Comprehensive Collection of Chinese Art." In 1983, "Wang Chao's Paintings Selection" was published. In 1999, "Wang Chao Research" was published. In 2005, "Selected Poems of the Chinese Spirit" was published. In 2009, "Wang Chao's Calligraphy Collection," "Wang Chao's Freehand Peony Selections," "The School of Academia Series - Wang Chao," and "60 Masters of Red Flag Painting - Wang Chao Special Issue" were published. In 2010, "Wang Chao's Calligraphy and Painting Collection" was published, among others.
