Tian Xiujing, born in 1973 in Tianjin, hails from a scholarly family and has been immersed in the art of calligraphy since childhood. Over decades of diligent practice, she has studied numerous classical models and mastered seal script and Ouyang style, following the traditions of Wang Xizhi, Ouyang Xun, Zhao Mengfu, and Li Xuezeng, a renowned calligrapher from Republican-era Tianjin. She is currently a member of the Fine Arts Education Committee of the Chinese Society for Education, a member of the Tianjin Calligraphers Association, a member of the Tianjin Hard-Pen Calligraphers Association, and a registered member of the Tianjin Calligraphers Association.
For ten years, she has persistently practiced at the inkstone, deeply engaging with the traditional帖学 heritage. Her seal script is authentic and precise; her daily dedication to copying ancient models has built an exceptionally solid foundation. Her calligraphy exhibits fluent brushwork, elegant and balanced structure, and a natural, unforced charm that reveals subtle brilliance within simplicity.
Awards and Honors:
In June 2021, she was awarded the Third Prize for Outstanding Mentor Teacher.
In September 2021, she received the Individual Excellent Organization Award from the Tianjin Hard-Pen Calligraphers Association for Cultural Promotion.
In March 2022, her work "Qinyuanchun · Snow" on a blue background was auctioned for 80,000 RMB at the Sotheby's Cultural Art Center.
To study calligraphy and compose ink works, one must be nurtured by profound scholarship. Without deep cultural cultivation and spiritual elevation, one’s calligraphy can never attain the highest realms. Ms. Tian Xiujing’s numerous calligraphy pieces are rooted firmly in her personal cultural refinement. Her scholarly depth not only imbues her works with exceptional cultural depth but also brings a gentle, scholarly aura to the calligraphy world. As one of the rare female masters of seal script, Ms. Tian’s seal script is undeniably grounded in rigorous technique. Her brushwork flows neither hastily nor stiffly, strong yet steady; her strokes turn gracefully and variably—sometimes rugged and archaic, sometimes soft and harmonious. The overall composition of her seal script is naturally expansive and majestically solemn. Viewing her works feels like standing before ancient steles, as if the scent of books and ink fills the air!
