Ma Wensheng
Ma Wensheng, Biyuntian, selecting cold branches. Renowned painter, calligrapher, and art critic. Founder of the Biyuntian Brush and Art Alliance. Graduated from Northeast University of Finance and Economics and Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts. Currently a member of the China Artists Association for Art Criticism, a council member of the Shaanxi Association of Art Critics, and a member of the Shaanxi Calligraphers Association and Shaanxi Artists Association. He also serves as a council member and deputy director of the Theoretical Center of the Xi’an Artists Association, and as a researcher at the Wang Xijing Art Research Institute of Northwest University. He studied under renowned artists Shi Pu, known as “The Hermit of Chang’an,” and professors Yang Jianxi and Li Yutian of Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts.
His paintings and calligraphy works have been selected for the Xi’an Federation of Literary and Art Circles exhibition “Forever Follow the Party,” and the Xi’an Chinese Painting Research Society’s exhibition on “Magnificent Qinling Mountains in Chinese Painting.” His calligraphy works were exhibited in Shaanxi’s Charity Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition commemorating the 71st anniversary of the founding of New China and the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, and were collected by provincial charity institutions. In 2019, more than twenty of his calligraphy works were displayed at the Shaanxi Provincial Library.
He has authored over 800,000 words of literary and artistic criticism, fiction, poetry, and prose, including over 300,000 words dedicated to art and calligraphy criticism, published in renowned publications such as Guangming Daily: Boqunshu, China Art Newspaper, China Information Daily, China Painting and Calligraphy Newspaper, Fine Arts Newspaper, China Artistic Figures, Shaanxi Daily, and Shaanxi Art World. Numerous literary works have been reprinted on websites such as China Art Network, Sina.com, and Artron.net, and he has been appointed as a column writer by China Marketing Communication Network and Brand Network.
In 2017, he received the Shaanxi Art Masters Criticism Award and second prize in the Shaanxi Workers’ Cultural Festival Art Criticism Competition.
From 2018 to 2021, he was honored four consecutive years with the title of “Outstanding Individual” by the Xi’an Artists Association.
In 2021, he edited and published “Wang Xijing, People’s Painter” through Beijing People’s Publishing House.
In 2022, he was awarded the title of “One of Xi’an’s Hundred Outstanding Young Artistic Talents.”
His landscape painting “I Say Autumn Surpasses Spring” was selected for the Shaanxi Sanqin Culture Research Association’s exhibition celebrating the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.
Wang Xijing, Vice President of the China Painting Society and former Chairman of the Shaanxi Artists Association, evaluated his work as “Literature carries the Way, achieving profound principles”; Yu Jigao, former Vice President of the China Ink Wash Painting Society and Vice President of Jiangsu Provincial Academy of Painting, a renowned artist, praised his work as “Deep thought reveals natural innocence; brushstrokes manifest spiritual vitality.”
