Cai Zheng'an - Founder of Mo Xuan Chinese Painting
Cai Zheng'an, male, born in 1951, hails from a poor family in Tai’an, Shandong. He is a calligraphy and painting artist and the founder of Chinese Mo-Xuan ink-wash painting.
He has loved calligraphy and painting since childhood. He enlisted in the army in 1969 and became a teacher after discharge. Starting in 1987, he devoted himself to innovating Mo-Xuan ink-wash painting. After 13 years of persistent effort, he successfully created a uniquely distinctive style of Mo-Xuan ink-wash painting in 2000. His works were officially recognized by China’s Ministry of Culture as the origin of national Mo-Xuan ink-wash painting. His artworks are widely cherished and collected by collectors both domestically and internationally, and have received high praise from renowned Chinese art masters. His creations have drawn attention throughout China’s art community.
Originally a grassroots painter without formal training from any art academies at any level, he became a nationally certified First-Class Artist solely through self-study and successfully passing the Ministry of Culture’s art assessment, receiving an official certificate. His works have been collected by the Liyuan Spring Performing Arts Department of Henan Television. In 2006, his work “Liyuan Spring” was collected by Zhongnanhai. In 2007, his artwork was awarded as an outstanding piece at the China National Painting Exhibition.
His works embody new concepts, new ideas, and new creativity in Chinese painting. They transcend the mundane, exude freshness and elegance, convey profound artistic conceptions, and stand uniquely apart.
He has now established his own art gallery, the “Zheng’an Mo-Xuan Calligraphy and Painting Art Gallery,” fulfilling his lifelong dream.
