Dai Xiangdong
Dai Xiangdong, pen name Wangdong, was born in 1961 and graduated from the Chinese Painting Department of Shandong Institute of Art, later furthering his studies at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. He is currently a National First-Class Artist, Chinese National Gift Artist, member of the China Artists Association, member of the Zhejiang Artists Association, academician of the Chinese Academy of Chinese Painting, council member of the China Calligraphy and Painting Artists Association, senior research class mentor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, and director of the Wenzhou Branch of the Qi Baishi Art Research Institute of China.
Teacher Dai Xiangdong has loved painting since childhood and is a recognized disciple of Qi Baishi, having received direct instruction from many renowned painters. His works stand out uniquely in today's art scene. Unbound by convention, his creations are fresh and innovative. He specializes in ink shrimp in the Qi style and Tibetan Mastiff paintings, evoking a sense of freshness and clarity, brimming with spiritual vitality and poetic ambiance. He has elevated the expressive spirit of Chinese ink brushwork to an exceptional level—a rarity among contemporary artists.
Teacher Dai has consistently dedicated himself to artistic creation, focusing primarily on animal paintings. His works exude grandeur and natural harmony, while he actively participates in social art activities. His artworks have been exhibited and collected in countries such as Japan, France, Germany, Singapore, the United States, South Korea, and Australia through cultural exchange visits. He has been honored by the China Artists Association with titles including “Outstanding Individual Achievement” and “Artist of Virtue and Talent.”
His work “Five Mastiffs Bring Auspiciousness” sold for a high price of RMB 880,000 at the Beijing Chuan Shi Ink Summer Auction.
