Han Fei
Han Fei, original name: Han Yi, born in 1957 in Chifeng, Inner Mongolia, styled Xiu, alias Saiwai Jushi. National First-Class Artist, member of the Jiangxi Branch of the China Calligraphers Association, council member of the China Painters Association, and council member of the China Planners Association.
From childhood, he was inspired and guided by his elder brother Han Bin to pursue a career in painting art. In 1976, he graduated from the Art Department of Inner Mongolia Normal University. He meticulously studied and copied masterpieces from dynasties past, carefully pondered their essence, continuously practiced, and developed a style blending meticulous detail with expressive brushwork, characterized by simple and elegant coloring and profound artistic implication.
He is especially skilled in painting squirrels, having lived in seclusion for 18 years among the forests and mountains beyond the Great Wall, observing them morning and evening, studying their behaviors in minute detail without interruption. Thus, he intimately understands the joys, anger, sorrows, pleasures, and fears of squirrels. His creations exhibit precise, lifelike forms that perfectly capture both physical appearance and spiritual essence, complemented by uniquely distinctive pine trees, forming an artistic style appreciated by both connoisseurs and the general public.
In 2008, to further explore and refine his artistic造型, he enrolled in the first advanced research class on artistic form at the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University, receiving dedicated guidance from mentors Sun Yumin, Shen Wei, Wang Yuliang, Su Bojun, Bai Yunxiang, Li Xianghong, Ren Huizhong, Wang Ke, and Wang Wei. His overall painting style reached a new level, continuing the artistic craftsmanship of Wang Xue Tao and Liu Jiyou.
Currently, integrating his profound exploration and dedication to art, he has returned to the original intention of painting—gratitude for the 18-year journey in nature during his root-art phase, experiencing the process of life. Through the squirrel’s lifelong contribution to nature, he reaffirms his mission and responsibility: to inherit traditional Chinese culture and spread the beauty of life bestowed by nature—from respecting the origin of life, practicing the path of artistic life, to fulfilling the responsibility of propagating the vitality of art.
