During university, Zhu Mingxiang gained minor fame in the ancient capital of Kaifeng. Later, upon his mentor’s recommendation, he became a disciple of the great calligrapher Zhang Hai and deeply absorbed his teachings. He tirelessly practiced ancient steles and rubbings every day, never ceasing his brushwork, achieving mastery in all styles of calligraphy. Observing his works, one notices an exceptionally strong awareness of line formation and highly refined skill. Holding the brush is a matter of the hand, moving the brush is a matter of the hand; when heart and hand mutually guide each other, the strokes naturally take shape, creating brushwork with sharp edges emerging from all eight directions! Within a single stroke, undulations arise at the tip of the brush; within a single dot, variations of pressure and release occur at the tip of the hairs! Up and down, left and right, in perfect rhythm, his calligraphic lines resemble the forms of myriad natural phenomena. Indeed, his masterpieces frequently emerge with the wondrous harmony of nature—impossible to achieve through mere physical effort alone. Such exceptional calligraphic ability cannot be attained by mere craftsmen; it requires divine inspiration!
In recent years, Zhu Mingxiang’s works have been exhibited multiple times in national and provincial-level large-scale calligraphy exhibitions, winning numerous awards and receiving high praise from both professionals and enthusiasts.
