The professionalization of calligraphy has led to its operationalization, making the study and creation of calligraphy a lifelong pursuit for many people. This situation is undoubtedly more beneficial than detrimental to the openness and prosperity of calligraphy, a development made possible by the tireless dedication of many responsible calligraphers to the art. Tang Xiaoyan, who works at the Art Creation Studio of the Political Department of the Nanjing Military Region, is one of the outstanding figures among them.
Tang Xiaoyan, a member of the China Calligraphers Association and a council member of the Jiangsu Calligraphers Association, is a full-time artist at the military’s Art Creation Studio. Although she is a young calligrapher born in the 1980s, she has achieved numerous accomplishments. She has won more than twenty awards in various calligraphy exhibitions organized by the China Calligraphers Association and has received multiple awards in numerous exhibitions hosted by the China Calligraphers Association and the General Political Department. These achievements are inseparable from Tang Xiaoyan’s intelligence and wisdom, as well as her hard work, sweat, and relentless pursuit. She was selected into the Elite Class of the Shen Peng Calligraphy Studio at the China National Academy of Painting, becoming one of the youngest members. Such accomplishments are difficult to attain; yet, after achieving so much, she continues to maintain a cautious and humble attitude toward learning.
